A lifelong interest in drawing and related issues - material, perceptual, expressive, cultural - has remained a preoccupation. In recent years this has led to formal and academic research in the field accompanied by practice.
Teaching of drawing through practice occurs in many contexts - social, academic, experimental, project setting and research. Teaching in the North East of England include early work as a tutor with the WEA (Northern Branch), The Arts Project, Northgate Hospital for learning difficulties and acquired head injuries, and with local schools and universities.
Doctoral research exploring intersections between contemporary drawing issues and studio glass practice was completed through the University of Sunderland, Department of Glass and Ceramics, in 2012.
Presentations and papers include those for the Drawing Research Network conferences at the Universities of Loughborough and Brighton, the Robert Minkoff Academic Symposium, Brooklyn, New York and identification of a new Drawing Taxonomy in support of practical and theoretical teaching in the field.
Current projects include development work with partner organisations to establish a Northern Drawing School in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Recent exhibitions include "What is Drawing ?" The Customs House Gallery, South Shields, Observations Not Taken Today Vane Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne and "Drawing Talking To The Sciences" Exhibition and Conference at the Ruskin, Lancaster, January 2020
